Romania: Regulatory Authorities

National Audiovisual Council of Romania

The National Audiovisual Council of Romania (CNA) is the only regulator for the audio visual sector in Romania. It is the guarantor of the public interest with regards to the audiovisual (TV and radio) sector.

CNA ensures that the public in general, and children in particular, are protected from inappropriate or abusive TV and radio programmes. CNA also represents the state with regard to the TV and radio industry in Romania and issues broadcasting licences. CNA works closely with key partners in order to understand the industry and provide a supporting and monitoring role. CNA’s council holds public meetings every week and is empowered by the Romanian Parliament to monitor the editorial content of the broadcasters and take measures in cases of infringement.
